Russia Warns Against US Missile Deployments in Europe

MOSCOW – European countries would be putting themselves at significant risk if they accept the deployment of long-range U.S. missiles, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned in a video published on Saturday.

In an interview with Russian state TV reporter Pavel Zarubin, Peskov addressed the possibility of the United States deploying hypersonic missiles in Europe. “We have enough potential to deter these missiles. But the capitals of these [European] states are potential victims,” he stated.

Peskov emphasized that during the Cold War, American missiles stationed in Europe were targeted at Russia, and in response, Russian missiles were aimed at European countries. This mutual targeting made European nations the primary victims of any potential conflict.

“Europe is now coming apart at the seams. This is not the best time for Europe. Therefore, in one way or another, history will repeat itself,” Peskov remarked, suggesting that current tensions could lead to a similar standoff as seen during the Cold War.
