WARSAW – A Polish coal miner, trapped underground since Thursday, has been found alive by rescuers, local media reported on Saturday. The incident occurred at the Rydultowy mine in southern Poland, operated by the state-controlled group PGG, following a tremor around 0600 GMT on Thursday, approximately 1,200 meters (3,960 feet) below ground.
The tremor resulted in the death of one miner, while about 76 were rescued and brought to the surface on Thursday, with 17 requiring hospitalization. State-run news channel TVP Info reported that the miner was conscious when rescuers reached him. Private broadcaster RMF FM mentioned that a helicopter was on standby at the mine to transport him to the hospital. Most of the miners who were hospitalized have since been discharged, according to TVP Info.
