Relatives of Hamas attack victims interrupt PM Netanyahu’s speech

JERUSALEM – During a commemorative event in Jerusalem on October 27, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech was interrupted by relatives of victims from the October 7 Hamas attack. One protester emotionally shouted, “My father was killed,” as Netanyahu stood at the podium in silence for over a minute amidst the interruptions.

These protests reflect the increasing public pressure on Netanyahu’s administration to secure the release of hostages still held by militants in Gaza. In response, Israeli officials are intensifying efforts, with Mossad chief David Barnea heading to Doha on October 27 to engage in talks aimed at reinitiating negotiations for a hostage release deal.

The focus on diplomatic action comes as Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant acknowledged that military operations alone cannot achieve all objectives, including the safe return of hostages. Gallant stated that “painful concessions” may be required to fulfill what he described as Israel’s “moral duty” to bring the hostages home.
