Jewel Changi Airport Achieves Record Footfall of 80 Million in 2024

SINGAPORE – Jewel Changi Airport celebrated a milestone in 2024, recording over 80 million visitors—the highest annual footfall since its opening in 2019. This marks a 10% increase from the 74 million visitors in 2023, highlighting the retail and entertainment complex’s strong recovery post-pandemic.

Footfall growth was accompanied by a 5% rise in sales, with retail revenue per square foot increasing by 6% compared to the previous year. International travelers accounted for 35% of total visitors, with China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Australia, and the Philippines as the top five markets.

Singapore’s National Day on August 9, 2024, was Jewel’s busiest day of the year, attracting 354,036 visitors, while the long weekend celebrations from August 9 to 11 drew a million people.

Enhancing Retail and Experiences

Jewel’s Chief Executive Officer James Fong expressed optimism about the complex’s performance despite a challenging retail environment. He emphasized plans to enhance tenant business strategies, introduce new retail concepts, and expand Jewel’s offerings.

In 2025, Jewel will welcome nearly 30 new tenants, including Adidas, Salomon, Nintendo, and Korean restaurant Bookmagol’s first Singapore outlet. Additionally, Jewel will host a global business event in March, featuring panel discussions and a gaming tournament organized by CNBC and NBCUniversal.

“We constantly challenge ourselves to reimagine Jewel as a retail paradise, tourist attraction, and a business event venue,” said Mr. Fong, highlighting the complex’s adaptability.

Changi Airport’s Broader Rebound

Jewel’s success coincides with Changi Airport’s recovery, with passenger traffic reaching 99.1% of pre-pandemic levels in 2024. Currently, the airport supports 7,400 weekly flights to 163 cities in 49 countries, operated by 100 airlines.

Looking ahead, passenger traffic is expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels in 2025. By the mid-2030s, the launch of Changi Airport Terminal 5 aims to expand Singapore’s air connectivity to over 200 cities, bolstering its position as a global travel hub.

Jewel, a $1.7 billion joint venture between Changi Airport Group and CapitaLand Development, houses over 260 retail and dining outlets, solidifying its role as a key player in Singapore’s tourism and retail landscape.
