Biden Calls for Accountability After Death of American Protester in West Bank

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden has demanded “full accountability” from Israel following the fatal shooting of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, an American and Turkish national, during a protest against settlement expansion in the West Bank. In a statement, Biden described the shooting as “totally unacceptable” and stressed that while Israel has acknowledged responsibility, the U.S. expects continued transparency in the investigation.

Eygi, 26, was killed last Friday in Beita, near Nablus, where clashes between Palestinians and far-right Israeli settlers have been frequent. Israel has claimed her death was accidental.

Biden also condemned violence from both “extremist Israeli settlers” and “Palestinian terrorists,” reinforcing his support for measures to hold all parties accountable for exacerbating tensions and obstructing peace efforts. The U.S. has called for reforms in Israeli military practices in the West Bank, reflecting growing concerns over the region’s ongoing violence.
