KATHMANDU – Abacus education is gaining momentum as an effective learning method among students in Nepal, with increasing participation and positive outcomes. A recent school-level abacus competition held at Bright Future Secondary School and College in Kathmandu saw remarkable involvement from the local community.
Organized by Bal Bikas NCMAS Pvt. Ltd., the event took place on Saturday, drawing around 400 students from grades 1 to 7. Participants in the competition will have the chance to advance to the national-level abacus competition, set to take place in the month of Falgun.
Teju Nepal, CEO of NCMAS, highlighted the cognitive benefits of abacus education, emphasizing that it helps students improve concentration and fosters the habit of focused learning. “This competition helps students enhance their ability to concentrate, which is essential for overall academic success,” Nepal stated.
The school’s principal, Basudev Koirala, also expressed enthusiasm for the growing interest in abacus education, noting its positive impact on students’ academic performance. “Abacus education has proven to be a valuable tool in boosting our students’ learning abilities,” Koirala remarked.
The event also featured speeches from Campus Principal Kishor Adhikari and Administrative Head Ramraman Humagain, both of whom stressed the importance of such initiatives for the development of students’ cognitive skills. The event saw active participation from parents, who were encouraged by the positive impact of abacus education on their children’s learning.
Bal Bikas NCMAS Pvt. Ltd. is also preparing for the largest abacus competition ever held in Nepal, aiming to set a World Record. This initiative is poised to further solidify the role of abacus education in enhancing students’ mental arithmetic skills and academic performance across the country.
