Rangnick Extends Austria Deal Through 2028

VANCOUVER — Austria coach Ralf Rangnick has agreed a contract extension through 2028, the Austrian Football Association said on June 13, dismissing recent media links to a technical director role at AC Milan. The 67-year-old German, who managed Manchester United from 2021 to 2022, took charge of Austria later that year; his previous contract had been due to run until after the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The association praised Rangnick’s impact, saying the squad had “developed exceptionally well both on the field and structurally” and had re-established itself internationally under his leadership. Rangnick also guided Austria to their first World Cup qualification in 28 years.

Austria open their World Cup campaign on Tuesday against Jordan at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Group J, alongside holders Argentina and Algeria.
