1 dead, 3 missing in Japan after heavy rain from storm Mawar

Non stop downpour across parts of Japan has taken away the life of one person and left three missing. The flood has been caused by the leftovers of former Typhoon Mawar, now demoted to a tropical storm. A rescue team in central Aichi region’s Toyohashi, spoted a man approximately in his 60s. He was seen drowned in a car, later he was confirmed dead. In western Wakayama, where many rivers flooded their banks, officials told AFP that they had restarted the hunt for one man and one woman who were missing in the place. Several of rescue workers also searched for a resident who could not be reached after his house was immersed by a landslide in central Hamamatsu city.

A total of six people were severely wounded and 29 suffered minor wounds as at Saturday afternoon, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency spoke about the matter. In Japan, many evacuation orders – which are optional,  were demoted on Saturday as the weather was relaxed. Many cities including Aichi’s Toyohashi and Koshigaya near Tokyo reportedly seeing the highest 24-hour rainfall on record, the Japan Meteorological Agency encouraged inhabitants to “be on high alert for landslides, flooding rivers and low-lying areas”.
