Nepal Launches “Switzerland of South Asia” Development Project in Collaboration with BRICS ASEAN Chamber Malaysia

Kathmandu – Nepal has launched an ambitious development plan dubbed the “Nepal as the Switzerland of South Asia Project”, in collaboration with the BRICS ASEAN Chamber of Commerce Malaysia and South Asian Development Banq Ltd, aimed at transforming the country into a hub of economic growth and sustainable development. The initiative was unveiled in the presence of Hon. Bishnu Prashad Paudel, Nepal’s Finance Minister, alongside international stakeholders.

The project’s launch highlights Nepal’s efforts to capitalize on its rich natural, cultural, and human resources. Speaking at the event, Thayalan Nathan, President of the BRICS ASEAN Chamber of Commerce Malaysia, praised Nepal’s affordable power distribution, skilled workforce, and stable governance, referring to the country as having a “unique synergy.” He outlined plans to expand investments in Nepal and generate employment through the project.

The launch also saw Dato’ Ahmad Zakir Nizam Haji Bidin, CEO of Viva Rail Lines Behad, revealing plans to improve connectivity across Nepal through a fully funded train project, linking major tourist and pilgrimage destinations. This infrastructure development is expected to bolster tourism and enhance economic opportunities in remote areas.

In addition, Zarif Menon, President and CEO of South Asian Development Banq Ltd, emphasized the group’s readiness to provide financial support and facilitate skill enhancement for digital and sustainable reforms, targeting the auto market in Nepal.

Dato’ Dr. B. S. Bains, founder of BainsPhysio, further added to the development initiative by announcing the establishment of a specialty multi-skill development center in Nepal. The center will aim to train 10,000 individuals across sectors such as hospitality, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing, enhancing the country’s workforce capabilities.

Finance Minister Bishnu Prashad Paudel expressed gratitude to the international participants and said the project signaled Nepal’s emergence as a strong brand in South Asia. “Nepal, with its rich natural and cultural heritage, is set to transform and realize its development potential,” he stated.

The event was attended by prominent figures including Manimaran Suppiah, founder of Prones Asia Group Malaysia, Kaushal Kumar, Chairman of Ray Foundation, Laxman Basnet, Ceo of Sarc Foundation and Sarita Tiwari, Director of Sarc Group of Companies, among other international dignitaries and social workers.

The “Nepal as the Switzerland of South Asia” project is expected to open new avenues of growth and investment, positioning Nepal as a key destination for sustainable development in the region.
