SYDNEY — Britain’s King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to attend a service at St Thomas Anglican Church in North Sydney on Sunday, marking the official start of their royal tour in Australia. The royal couple will be welcomed by the Archbishop of Sydney, Kanishka Raffel, alongside children from the church’s Sunday school.
This visit offers the Australian public its first opportunity to meet the monarch and queen since their arrival in Sydney on Friday night. After the service, Charles and Camilla will engage with local residents, providing a chance for personal interaction with the royals.
King Charles, 75, is making his inaugural visit to an overseas realm as sovereign, following his accession to the throne. This trip also marks his first major foreign engagement since his recent cancer diagnosis, which has been closely followed by the media.
In a special honor ahead of next week’s Sydney Harbour fleet review, Australia appointed King Charles to the honorary ranks of admiral of the navy, field marshal of the army, and marshal of the air force. The royal visit is expected to draw significant public attention, as the country continues to celebrate its long-standing ties to the British monarchy.
