Japan PM Kishida to reshuffle Cabinet

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida conveyed on Sunday that he will reshuffle his Cabinet as early as Wednesday. The conservative governer, while going to New Delhi to see the Group of 20 summit, also shared that he plans to issue a new economic package which can prove to be supportive in how families handle the inflation.

“After I go back to Japan early Monday, I will cooperate with relevant people and will execute personnel appointments for the (ruling) party’s leadership positions and ministerial posts,” Mr Kishida told a televised press conference in the Indian capital. “I wish to save people’s lives from inflation whilst energising the trend of wage increases and expanded investment,” he added. “I wish to execute a prominent economic package, backed by an important budget, to do that. We should be doing this very immediately.” He gave no in depth details.

The declaration happened as Mr Kishida tries to lift his shrinking fame and also his standing within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party ahead of a party leadership election in 2024. At the press conference, Mr Kishida also repeated his call for China to enforce an import hindrance on Japanese seafood that started in August after Japan began releasing treated wastewater from the disaster-hit Fukushima nuclear plant.
