PETALING JAYA — At 99 years old, Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad continues to demonstrate that age is just a number. In a recent video shared on his Facebook page, the nonagenarian was seen taking a thrilling drive at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), hitting speeds of 154 km/h.
Initially, Dr. Mahathir was seated in the passenger seat of an Audi Q5 SUV driven by SIC’s non-executive chairperson, Tan Sri Mohamed Azman Yahya. Later, he took over the wheel, showcasing his love for speed.
The video also featured a conversation about the origins of the Sepang circuit and Malaysia’s entry into the world of Formula One racing, which was one of Dr. Mahathir’s initiatives during his first term as prime minister. The Sepang International Circuit, which opened in 1999, remains a proud achievement of Dr. Mahathir’s leadership, highlighting his vision for Malaysia’s role on the global motorsport stage.
