SHAH ALAM – Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has announced his intention to defend his position as Vice-President of the People’s Justice Party (PKR) in the upcoming party elections. He emphasized the need for a united and strong leadership team to support PKR President Anwar Ibrahim, highlighting the importance of Rafizi Ramli’s role as Deputy President.
Speaking at the Selangor PKR general meeting, Amirudin stated, “I will defend my position as Vice-President because we need to be one united and strong voice to progress.”
Earlier, there were speculations that Amirudin might run for the Deputy Presidency in the May elections. However, he clarified that he would only make a decision after consulting Anwar, as he was cautious about potential internal conflicts from intense competition for party positions.
Amirudin has held the Vice-President role since 2022. He urged all candidates contesting in the polls to be mindful of their words and actions to maintain party unity. The PKR branch-level elections are set to take place from April 11 to 20, followed by the central leadership polls on May 24.
