RISE Educator Award Returns to Empower Malaysian Teachers

SUBANG JAYA, MALAYSIA – The RISE Educator Award by Taylor’s College launches its sixth edition on Teacher’s Day, offering over RM100,000 in prizes to honor teachers driving inclusive, innovative change in classrooms nationwide under the theme “Celebrating Teachers Behind the Future We Share.”

Open to educators from national, private, international schools, preschools, primary, secondary levels, and now alternative centers for refugee and stateless children, nominations run from May 15 to June 30. Public entries of 100-500 words must detail the challenge, actions, outcomes, and lasting community impact.

Campus Director Josephine Tan emphasized teacher-led progress: “Meaningful progress in education is increasingly driven by teachers on the ground, those who are rethinking how learning happens and ensuring it remains inclusive and relevant.” Since 2021, the award has granted over RM36,000 to 18 teachers and RM200,000 to 16 schools.

Last year’s winner, Stefanus Lucas from Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Kota Kinabalu, used his RM50,000 school sponsorship to create Sabah’s first Inclusive Music Room for deaf students. Leveraging rhythm, vibration, and visuals, the program now engages over 40 students, with some earning international acclaim.

Five shortlisted teachers face judging by a panel including past winners, blending 75% jury scores with 25% public votes to select the top recipient. This initiative bolsters Malaysia’s push for quality, equitable education amid growing demands for future-ready learning.
