KYIV – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Wednesday praised a recent U.S.-Ukraine meeting focused on ending Russia’s invasion, expressing optimism that a proposed 30-day ceasefire could serve as a foundation for a broader peace agreement.
The United States announced on Tuesday that it would resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine following an agreement reached in Saudi Arabia for a temporary ceasefire with Russia.
“I take this ceasefire proposal very seriously. Ending the war is my priority,” Zelenskiy said at a briefing in Kyiv, calling the renewed U.S. support a positive development.
He confirmed Ukraine’s willingness to accept the 30-day ceasefire as suggested by Washington, highlighting that the Jeddah meeting had helped ease recent tensions between Ukraine and the U.S. following a dispute between him and President Donald Trump at the White House last month.
After the talks, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the ceasefire proposal would now be presented to Russia, placing the next move in Moscow’s hands. The Kremlin, in response, said it was awaiting further details from Washington regarding the ceasefire terms.
