NEW DELHI — World leaders sent congratulations to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the eve of him becoming India’s longest‑serving elected prime minister, lauding his governance, advocacy for the Global South and the country’s economic and social progress.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, in a letter dated June 8, praised the milestone as evidence of public trust and highlighted India’s transformation under Modi, noting the prime minister’s influence beyond India’s borders and recalling Modi’s April 2025 visit to Sri Lanka when he received the Mitra Vibhushana.
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape, in a video message, called Modi “a role model” and commended his record on poverty reduction, saying India’s progress under Modi strengthened ties between the countries after Modi’s historic May 2023 visit for the India–Pacific Islands Cooperation summit.
Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad‑Bissessar also offered congratulations, citing India’s elevated global voice and Modi’s domestic achievements across infrastructure, economic growth and social development, and referenced his July 2025 visit to Trinidad and Tobago, the first by an Indian prime minister in 26 years.
