Ukraine to Send Delegation to U.S. for Talks on Revised Minerals Agreement

KYIV – Ukraine plans to send a government delegation to the United States soon to discuss a newly proposed framework for a minerals agreement, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced on Friday.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has submitted a revised, more comprehensive version of the original minerals deal to Kyiv, with Ukrainian officials confirming receipt of the draft last week.

Preliminary online consultations between Ukrainian and U.S. officials may begin as early as Friday, according to Sybiha. “We expect that the Ukrainian delegation will travel to Washington in the near term to discuss the provisions of the mineral resources agreement proposed by the U.S.,” he said during his visit to Brussels.

Sybiha emphasized that Kyiv is thoroughly reviewing the updated proposal, stressing that any deal must serve the interests of both nations. He also underscored the importance of ensuring the agreement aligns with Ukraine’s broader goal of joining the European Union.

The initial draft of the agreement went unsigned following a tense Oval Office meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February.
