Jay Mahesh Gangadia, a young artist from Gujarat, India, lives with 80% disability due to cerebral palsy. Despite being dependent on assistance for daily tasks, many might expect his world to be limited. However, Jay has proven that reality doesn’t have to be confined by circumstances. For the past six years, he has created over 450 vibrant works of art, each one filled with purpose, passion, and the power of self-expression. Jay’s paintings speak volumes where words might fall short, offering a vivid testament to the strength of the human spirit.
His talent has not gone unnoticed. Jay has gifted over 150 paintings to some of India’s most distinguished leaders and dignitaries, including Home Minister of India Honorable Shri Amitbhai Shah, Governor of Gujarat state Shri Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Home Minister of Gujarat Shri Harsh Sanghvi and many more.
Through each painting, Jay not only expresses his inner world but also builds a bridge between Divyangjan and mainstream society offering not pity, but pride. On 3rd December 2023, Jay’s excellence was recognized at the highest level when he was honored with the “Shreshta Divyangjan Award 2023” by the President of India, Srimati Droupadi Murmuji. This national recognition celebrates his painting skill and his powerful role as a source of inspiration for the Divyang community and the state of Gujarat.
Beyond awards, Jay’s journey is rich with personal milestones. He has hosted two solo exhibitions and participated in over 25 group exhibitions across Gujarat and India. His passion shines brightest during live painting events, where he’s showcased his abilities more than 15 times, leaving audiences in awe of his artistry and perseverance.
Through his art, Jay has not only gained admiration but also achieved financial independence and self-respect. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world was grappling with fear and uncertainty, Jay demonstrated remarkable generosity. He contributed ₹5,100 from his own earnings to the PM CARES Fund, showing that his spirit of service and compassion goes beyond his artistic journey.
