SINGAPORE – Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are set to meet in Putrajaya on Jan 6 for the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat. This key annual event aims to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for collaboration, marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
A highlight of the retreat will be the signing of agreements, including the formalization of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), an initiative designed to enhance trade and ease cross-border movement. Both leaders will also discuss ways to address shared challenges, improve connectivity, and promote economic growth.
The retreat will feature high-level meetings, an official welcome ceremony, and a dinner hosted by PM Anwar. PM Wong will be accompanied by a delegation of senior ministers from Singapore, while Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat will act as prime minister during his absence. The Leaders’ Retreat reflects the commitment of both nations to deepening cooperation and advancing mutual interests for the benefit of their citizens.
