SINGAPORE – Senior Minister of State for Defence Zaqy Mohamad met with Major-General Yousef Al-Huneiti, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, in Amman on Feb 13 to discuss humanitarian efforts for Gaza, regional security, and geopolitical developments.
Mr. Zaqy expressed gratitude to Jordan for facilitating the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) humanitarian aid transfer to Gaza. The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) emphasized that his visit highlights the strong defence ties between Singapore and Jordan, marked by regular professional exchanges.
SAF planners met with Jordanian counterparts to receive updates on Jordan’s humanitarian efforts for Gaza and explore ways to enhance assistance. During his visit, Mr. Zaqy also met with key humanitarian and medical leaders:
Dr. Hussein Mohammad Al-Shebli, Secretary-General of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) – Discussed ongoing humanitarian aid operations and explored further Singaporean contributions, including specialized medical support for children.
Ms. Nisreen Qatamesh, Director-General of the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC) – Discussed medical treatment for Gaza patients and potential collaboration for further assistance.
Mr. Zaqy was in Jordan for the delivery of nine tonnes of humanitarian aid for Gaza, which arrived on Feb 12 aboard a Republic of Singapore Air Force A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport. This shipment marked Singapore’s seventh tranche of assistance and included medical, food, and hygiene supplies from the Ministry of Health and non-governmental organisations Relief SG, Mercy Relief, and Caritas Humanitarian Aid & Relief Initiatives Singapore (Charis).
Both Singapore and Jordan reaffirmed their commitment to working together to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza while strengthening their defence and humanitarian cooperation.
