Russia Condemns Trump’s Remarks on Gaza, Warns Against Escalating Tensions in the Middle East

MOSCOW – Russia’s Foreign Ministry has strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments about resettling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and transferring control of the region to the United States. The Russian government expressed concern that such statements could exacerbate tensions in the already volatile Middle East.

Trump, in a statement made on Thursday, suggested that Israel would hand over Gaza to the United States following the conclusion of hostilities, after which the Palestinian population would be resettled elsewhere. Trump further stated that no U.S. military presence would be necessary on the ground, as the Palestinian population would be relocated to countries like Egypt and Jordan.

Earlier this week, Trump proposed a more controversial plan, which included demolishing the remaining buildings in Gaza and repurposing the land for a luxury development similar to a Mediterranean resort. He also suggested placing Gaza under U.S. “ownership,” further fueling international outrage.

In response, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed Russia’s disapproval of Trump’s remarks. “The main thing now is to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to all those in need,” Zakharova said, calling for efforts to ensure the full implementation of the agreements between Israel and Hamas. She emphasized that immediate humanitarian aid should be prioritized to alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict.

Zakharova also criticized Trump’s ideas as “populist” and “frivolous,” asserting that such proposals were counterproductive. “Any other palliative measures at the present stage are not helpful in resolving the issue; instead, they only escalate tensions in the region and add to the already existing, highly sensitive situation,” Zakharova added. Her comments reflect Russia’s long-standing position of advocating for a more diplomatic approach to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and maintaining peace in the Middle East.

Russia has consistently called for negotiations between Israel and Palestine, supporting a two-state solution as the best path toward lasting peace. The criticism of Trump’s remarks signals Moscow’s commitment to a more balanced and pragmatic approach to the ongoing crisis.

As the Middle East continues to grapple with the fallout from the conflict, international leaders, including those from Russia, are urging a focus on humanitarian needs and the implementation of peaceful agreements rather than taking radical steps that could potentially ignite further violence and instability.
