PKR’s Kuala Selangor Meeting Disrupted by Factional Dispute Ahead of Party Elections

PETALING JAYA – PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh has attributed the recent commotion at the party’s Kuala Selangor division annual meeting to a rivalry between two factions likely to compete in the upcoming party elections.

“My advice is to contest in a mature and professional manner while maintaining the spirit of camaraderie,” she told FMT.

Fuziah reassured party members that the meeting remained valid as it met the necessary requirements. She stated that any legal disputes would be handled by the courts, while internal complaints would be addressed by the party’s disciplinary board. Kuala Selangor police chief Azharudin Tajudin confirmed that a woman who attended the meeting had lodged a police report, leading authorities to open an investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor PKR chief Thiban Subbramaniam reported the incident to the police and also took action against whistleblower account Edisi Siasat for releasing a video of the altercation. “As party elections near, acts of sabotage aimed at damaging PKR’s image have become more frequent. I will leave this matter to the police and the party leadership to determine any necessary action,” he said in a Facebook post.

Fuziah also announced that the upcoming PKR elections would primarily be conducted online, with only a limited number of members allowed to vote in person. To maintain order, she emphasized that no more than 20 voters would be permitted to gather at any polling location nationwide. The elections for PKR’s division and central committee leadership are scheduled to take place in April and May.
