KATHMANDU – In a remarkable demonstration of mental arithmetic, 1,111 students from 72 schools across Bagmati Province gathered to perform simultaneous abacus calculations, aiming to set records in the Asean World Record, International Book of Records and Guinness World Record categories.
The event, organized by Bal Bikas NCMAS Private Limited, showcased the speed and efficiency of abacus arithmetic, a method known for enhancing not only mathematical skills but also students’ overall academic performance and personality development.
Bagmati Province Social Development Minister Hariprabha Khadgi Shrestha emphasized the importance of modern educational tools, advocating for the nationwide implementation of abacus learning.
“Modern teaching methods like abacus are essential for the overall development of children,” she stated.
Teju Nepal, Executive Director of Bal Bikas NCMAS Private Limited, highlighted that the event aimed to boost students’ creative thinking, analytical abilities, and decision-making skills. He noted that this was the first time in Nepal such a large-scale educational event had been conducted using the abacus method.
The competition successfully set an ‘ASEAN World Record,’ a significant achievement celebrated during the event. The Child Development Organization was awarded the official certificate of the ASEAN World Record by the chief guest, marking a historic moment for Nepal’s educational initiatives.
