JERUSALEM – An attacker stabbed one man to death and seriously wounded another in an Israeli mall on July 3 before being shot dead, officials said. Police are treating the double stabbing in the northern town of Karmiel as “a suspected terror attack.” There have been several deadly incidents in Israeli cities since the Gaza war against Hamas erupted on Oct 7.
“The attacker, whose identity is still unknown, was neutralized on site and his death was confirmed at the scene by medical officials,” said police Northern District commander Shuki Tahauka at the mall. Security measures have been tightened in the region following the attack, the commander added.
Paramedics transported the two victims to a hospital, where one was later confirmed dead, according to Mr. Masad Barhoum, director of the Galilee Medical Centre, who spoke to Kan public television. Paramedic Ran Moskowitz, one of the first responders, stated that both victims were men in their 20s.
Security camera footage broadcast on Israeli television appeared to show the assailant grappling with a person outside a clothing store in the mall before being shot. The incident comes amid soaring tensions in Israel’s Palestinian community and the occupied territories as the Israel-Hamas war continues in the Gaza Strip.
