Malaysian Government Launches Free Fertility Treatment Initiative for 1,300 Couples

PETALING JAYA – The Malaysian government has announced a new initiative to provide free intrauterine insemination (IUI) fertility treatments to 1,300 eligible couples, according to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri. The program is funded through an RM6 million allocation under Budget 2025, covering two cycles of IUI treatments and an infertility advocacy campaign.

Speaking at the launch of the Fertility Treatment Assistance and Infertility Advocacy (BuAI) programme in Penang, Nancy expressed hope that the initiative would help more couples fulfill their dreams of starting a family. The program targets couples with household incomes below RM10,000 per month who have not received any previous financial aid for IUI treatment.

The first pregnancy under the BuAI programme was recorded on February 18, marking an early success for the initiative. According to Nancy, the average cost of IUI treatments at private infertility centres ranges from RM2,000 to RM3,000 per cycle, making the government’s support a significant financial relief for eligible couples.

The BuAI programme is a collaborative effort with the National Population and Family Development Board, aimed at addressing infertility issues and boosting Malaysia’s birth rate.
