KUALA LUMPUR – In anticipation of high travel demand during the upcoming Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines Bhd and Firefly, has announced the addition of over 200 flights to key domestic destinations. This strategic move aims to provide travelers with more options and ensure affordable fares during the holiday season.
Increased Flight Frequencies and Larger Aircraft
To accommodate the festive rush, MAG will significantly increase flight frequencies and upgrade to larger aircraft on popular domestic routes, including Alor Setar, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Miri, Sibu, Kuching, Tawau, Sandakan, and Kota Kinabalu. These enhancements are designed to support the expected surge in passenger volume as Malaysians travel to reunite with family and friends.
In an official statement, MAG revealed, “We are committed to providing more travel options for our customers during this festive season. To make holiday travel more accessible, we will offer fixed all-in one-way fares starting from RM389 to Sabah and RM319 to Sarawak on select red-eye flights.” The bookings for these special fares are open until April 9 for travel between March 26 and April 9, exclusively through Malaysia Airlines’ website and mobile app.
Firefly’s Special Campaign with Discounted Fares
Firefly, another carrier under MAG, will launch a special promotional campaign from March 7 to 20, offering fares as low as RM69 for travel between March 7 and November 3. To meet the anticipated increase in demand, Firefly will add up to 40 additional flights for its jet and ATR-operated routes to popular destinations such as Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching, and Tawau.
Capped Economy Fares to Support Festive Travel
In line with the Malaysian government’s Raya festive subsidy policy, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will cap economy class base fares at RM499 one-way for flights from Kuala Lumpur to East Malaysia. This fare cap is applicable for travel between March 27 and March 30. The initiative aims to make air travel more affordable for those returning to their hometowns for the celebrations.
A spokesperson for MAG stated, “We are proud to support the government’s subsidy initiative, ensuring that families can travel affordably during this important festive season. Our goal is to provide a seamless and comfortable travel experience for all our passengers.”
Meeting Festive Demand and Supporting Community Reunions
With these additional flights, promotional fares, and capped prices, MAG is actively supporting the travel needs of Malaysians during the Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri period. The airline group aims to ensure that festive reunions are accessible and affordable for everyone.
This proactive approach by Malaysia Aviation Group reflects its commitment to enhancing the travel experience while supporting the community’s cultural and familial bonds during this festive period.
