KLUANG, Johor – The upcoming Mahkota state seat by-election in Johor will feature a direct contest between Barisan Nasional (BN) and opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Returning officer Azurawati Wahid confirmed that the nomination papers from both candidates were accepted without any issues. BN’s candidate is Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, 40, the Kluang Umno youth chief. PN’s candidate is Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, a former footballer from Johor.
The by-election was triggered by the death of Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on August 2. The electoral roll includes 66,318 voters, with early voting scheduled for September 24 and the main polling day on September 28.
