In a bustling city where dreams are made and opportunities abound, one man’s accidental journey led him to touch the lives of the forgotten and marginalized, illuminating a path of compassion and hope for all. Jeff Rotmeyer, Founder and CEO of ImpactHK and Love 21 Foundation, is a beacon of light who has dedicated his life to making a lasting impact on the lives of the less fortunate.
Jeff’s story began with a twist of fate. Originally hailing from Vancouver and later pursuing a football scholarship in the United States, his life took an unexpected turn after a knee injury reshaped his trajectory. With a heart open to new possibilities, Jeff ventured to South Korea, where a simple suggestion from a friend set the stage for a life-altering transformation. Teaching English in South Korea became the stepping stone that eventually led him to Hong Kong in 2005, where he immersed himself in the Native-speaking English Teacher scheme.
However, destiny had grander plans for Jeff. His first foray into the world of charitable work began when he started teaching football to refugees. Little did he know that this experience would be the catalyst for an incredible journey. Jeff’s path intersected with the Down syndrome community, a group he had little prior knowledge about. Yet, their unshakable spirit and unwavering kindness touched his heart, reshaping his priorities and inspiring him to embrace a greater purpose.
The turning point came in 2014, when Jeff’s friend invited him to Tung Chau Street Park, a locale that harbored a vibrant yet overlooked homeless community. This visit became an eye-opening experience that galvanized Jeff’s resolve to make a difference. What began as simple acts of distributing food evolved into something far more profound. ImpactHK was born—a beacon of hope in a city grappling with stark social disparities.
Embodying the slogan “kindness matters,” ImpactHK’s ethos resonates deeply with its founder’s unwavering commitment to putting the needs of others first. Today, ImpactHK stands as a testament to the power of compassion and community-driven efforts. The organization employs over 50 individuals, many of whom have traversed their own paths of homelessness. Their comprehensive services encompass Kindness Walks, facilitating access to welfare and accommodation, offering a range of housing options, fostering employment and training opportunities, and providing health and fitness support.
Jeff’s leadership extends beyond mere managerial duties. He remains closely connected to the community he serves, often found on the streets engaging in heartfelt conversations. This hands-on approach empowers him to devise more effective strategies and ensures that the organization’s mission remains grounded in the realities faced by those in need.
In addition to ImpactHK, Jeff’s boundless compassion led to the creation of the Love 21 Foundation. This foundation serves as a pillar of support for the Down syndrome and autistic community, offering health and nutritional programs that enhance the lives of its beneficiaries. Jeff’s unrelenting dedication has forged a bridge between diverse communities, demonstrating that love knows no boundaries.
Jeff Rotmeyer’s inspiring journey reminds us that each one of us possesses the power to enact change, to uplift those who have been marginalized, and to illuminate lives with the radiant light of kindness. His story is a testament to the transformative impact of embracing compassion, of daring to step outside our comfort zones, and of discovering our true purpose in the service of others.
