Iran’s President to Attend BRICS Summit in Russia

DUBAI – Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian will attend the upcoming BRICS summit in Russia, as confirmed by Tehran’s ambassador in Moscow on September 15. This visit comes amid ongoing tensions with Western countries over military cooperation between Iran and Russia.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had stated on September 10 that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran and might use them in Ukraine soon. This development has raised concerns about broader European security. In response, the US, Germany, Britain, and France imposed new sanctions on Iran on September 10, targeting entities including Iran Air.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi refuted the claims of missile delivery and criticized the sanctions as ineffective.

During the BRICS summit, scheduled for October 22-24 in Kazan, Russia, Pezeshkian is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Iran and Russia are also set to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement during this visit.
