Indonesia’s Mount Bromo draws thousands for ritual sacrifice

Indonesia’s Mount Bromo brings more than a thousand for ritual offering. Members of the Tengger sub-ethnic group move a goat as a sacrifice on the active Mount Bromo volcano in Probolinggo, East Java province, Many Hindu worshippers ascended a dynamic Indonesian volcano on Monday to hurl livestock, food and other offerings into its smoking crater in an extremely traditional historical religious ceremony. Flocking the thin rim around the basin of Mount Bromo, followers heaved goats, chickens and vegetables slung across their backs up to the coarse peak. It is a ritual of the Yadnya Kasada festival.

Each year, Tengger tribe followers from the adjacent highlands assemble  at the peak of the volcano – which is known for its heartwarming sunrise views – in faith of adoring their gods and they believed it brings fortune to the Tenggerese. Mr Slamet, a 40-year-old farmer carried a baby cow as a sacrifice. Some villagers who are not a part of Tengger tribe took to the crater’s steep slopes equipped with nets trying to stop offerings thrown into the abyss and avoid them going to waste.
