Hong Kong saw hottest summer on record in 2023

Hong Kong saw its most scorching summer on record this year, with the city experiencing “record-breaking” temperatures, the government revealed on Monday, the last area to see the affect of a warming planet. Climate difference has triggered scorching temperatures all around the globe already this year, with India, Japan and Australia latest week declaring recent temperature records toppled.

In Hong Kong, officials announced on Monday that “together with the extraordinarily scorching weather in June and July, Hong Kong saw the hottest summer on record from June to August 2023”. The city recorded a monthly mean temperature of 29.7 deg C last month, the hottest August on record, revealed by the Hong Kong Observatory.

This year also encountered the third-hottest July and fourth-hottest June since records started in 1884. The top three warmest years in Hong Kong’s history have been getting recorded after 2018. August was also “much scorching than ordinary with a total downpour of 140.7mm,” the Observatory added.
