Former Umno minister says Zahid should take responsibility for party’s dismal performance in state polls

Previous Umno stalwart Noh Omar has said to party president Zahid Hamidi to discontinue from his post after the Malay party’s sad outcome in the six state elections last Saturday. He said Datuk Seri Zahid is to be held the reason for Umno’s bad results in elections, whilst rejecting the latter’s allegation that he had sabotaged Umno. Despite this, he threw that allegation back at Dr Zahid. “I want to congratulate the Umno president for ruining his own group.

Why didn’t he support his group candidate campaign in the Sungai Burong seat last Friday in Selangor? Despite this, he went to the Permatang seat, which was being contested by a PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) candidate,” Tan Sri Noh said last Saturday night. “So, who is the one that ruined the group? Why would a group president put more prominence on other group instead of his own?”

In the Selangor state election, opponent coalition Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) candidate Mohd Zamri Mohd Zainuldin gained victory at Sungai Burong after recieving 15,447 votes in opposition to Umno’s Mohamad Khir Ramli who recieved 8,605 votes. The state election consequences unveiled several young voters in the Malay belt have decided PN over BN (Barisan Nasional). The majority vote in Sungai Burong was more than 6,000, it was happening for the very first time.
