ANKARA – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan accused the US administration under President Donald Trump of making “wrong calculations” in the Middle East, warning that listening to “Zionist lies” would only worsen regional conflicts.
Turkey has strongly rejected Trump’s proposal to remove over 2 million Palestinians from Gaza, place the territory under US control, and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” Ankara has also condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza as genocide and called for international measures against the Israeli government.
“The United States is making a wrong calculation about our region,” Erdogan stated, emphasizing the need to respect the region’s history, values, and accumulated experience.
The Turkish leader expressed hope that Trump would fulfill his campaign promises of promoting peace rather than fueling new conflicts. However, Erdogan noted that despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, he saw no genuine signs of peace and criticized the Muslim world’s inability to take collective action on the crisis.
