Diplomatic Storm Erupts After Breach of Bangladeshi Mission in India

NEW DELHI – A breach by protesters at a Bangladeshi diplomatic mission in India on Dec 2 has triggered a diplomatic fallout, highlighting growing tensions between the two neighbors. Protesters from the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti group reportedly stormed the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Tripura, damaging property and desecrating the Bangladeshi flag. The demonstration was sparked by the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das in Dhaka on sedition charges.

In response, Bangladesh suspended visa and consular services at the mission and summoned the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka to express its concerns. India’s External Affairs Ministry condemned the incident, calling it “deeply regrettable.”

The diplomatic strain occurs amid broader unrest over minority rights and deepening mistrust between India and Bangladesh, with analysts warning of challenges ahead for bilateral ties crucial to regional trade and security.
