China’s Wang Yi stresses promoting stable, healthy Sino-US relations with Blinken

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said promoting healthy, stable and sustainable China-US rapports is an essential task in a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Mr Blinken also conversed about his last trip to the Middle East and US diplomatic attempts in the area with Mr Wang, according to a statement from the US Department of State. In the call, the two top diplomats talked in depth about the Israel-Hamas conflict and said yes to go on with communication on the situation in the Middle East, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement on Dec 6.

Mr Wang revealed whilst the conversation that the top priority right now is to stop fire and stop fighting “as soon as we potentially can”. Mr Blinken also showed immense gratitude to Mr Wang for heading to the US Embassy in China to show his condolences over the death of previous US secretary of state Henry Kissinger, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Dr Kissinger, the most powerful US diplomat of the Cold War era, who was a great support to Washington open up to China, lost his life on Nov 29. “Dr Kissinger has always advocated that China and the United States should show honor to each other, grow together and fulfil their international responsibilities,” Mr Wang was quoted as saying in the phone call.

Mr Wang stressed that the US must completely acknowledge the need of the Taiwan problem to China. He also conversed about the value of Dr Kissinger’s diplomatic legacy being carried forward and developed by future generations. Mr Wang and Mr Blinken further showed concerns over the requirement of building upon progress made on important problems at the summit between the two nations’ presidents in California in November, according to statements from their respective departments.
