China renews call for US to lift sanctions, ‘open’ to commerce chief’s visit

China on Thursday renewed its call for the United States to bring up “unilateral” sanctions in opposition to Chinese enterprises ahead of a possible trip by the US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. The US has enforced sanctions on Chinese companies which are a part of using what the US calls forced labour in the far-western place of Xinjiang. China many times havs rejected the allegations. “The US has stringently disturbed Chinese companies’ interests,” China’s Commerce Ministry spokesman Shu Jueting told a press conference.

“China is firmly opposed to it, and pushes the US side to at the drop of a hat halt its questionable suppression of Chinese firms and lift its unilateral sanctions against them,” she added. When asked about a possible visit by Ms Raimondo, Ms Shu said: “China is welcoming with open arms such a visit and is in contact with the US over the matter.” “China will remain constantly in touch with looking after economic and trade problems through communication and dialogue, while promoting constructive and practical cooperation,” she added. The two nations have accepted the idea of keeping channels open for economic conversations.
