BEIRUT — In response to the escalating violence in Lebanon, the Canadian government has secured seats on commercial flights to assist its citizens in leaving the country, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced on Friday. The move follows intense Israeli airstrikes on Beirut, which have resulted in over 700 deaths.
“Canada has secured seats for Canadians on the limited commercial flights available,” Joly stated on social media, urging citizens to take advantage of any available seats. She also advised Canadians in Lebanon to register with the Canadian embassy for further assistance.
The Canadian government is offering financial loans to those in need of support to cover their travel expenses as the situation in Lebanon grows increasingly dire. The evacuation effort is a part of broader concerns over the possibility of an even more destructive conflict in the region.
