British Airways Resumes London-KLIA Flights, Boosting Malaysia-UK Connectivity

SEPANG – The return of British Airways’ direct flights between London’s Heathrow Airport and KLIA is set to enhance Malaysia’s connectivity with the UK, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook announced.

British Airways had suspended its Kuala Lumpur route in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Speaking at a ceremony marking the airline’s resumption of service, Loke highlighted the significance of this renewed link with one of Malaysia’s key trade and tourism partners.

“The timing is strategic as we gear up for Visit Malaysia 2026,” he stated. “This renewed connection will drive growth in the aviation sector and strengthen bilateral economic ties.”

Loke emphasized that trade agreements like the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will further enhance business engagements between Malaysia and the UK, fostering closer cooperation and new economic opportunities.

The CPTPP facilitates greater market access, diversifies supply chains, and expands opportunities for key industries in both nations. Beyond connecting Malaysia and the UK, Loke noted that British Airways’ presence at KLIA will reinforce Malaysia’s position as a regional transit hub for travelers heading to other ASEAN destinations.

Malaysia, which assumed the ASEAN chairmanship on January 1, is set to host the 46th ASEAN Summit from May 26-27, further solidifying its role in regional connectivity and diplomacy.
