PETALING JAYA – Negeri Sembilan PKR chief Aminuddin Harun has confirmed his bid to defend his vice-presidency in the upcoming party elections in May, acknowledging that the competition will be fierce.
The two-term Negeri Sembilan menteri besar admitted that retaining his position would be challenging, given the increasing number of candidates vying for the role.
“As expected, now that we are in government, more leaders are stepping forward to contest for the vice-president’s post,” he told Sinar Harian.
However, Aminuddin stressed the importance of embracing democracy, stating that electoral victories and defeats are part of politics.
“If I lose, I will accept the outcome. If I win, I will continue to see my challengers as comrades, as they too possess strong leadership qualities,” he said.
Currently, the four elected PKR vice-presidents are Aminuddin, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari, and federal ministers Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Chang Lih Kang. Both Amirudin and Nik Nazmi have also announced their intention to defend their positions.
Aminuddin first secured his vice-presidency in PKR’s 2022 party elections. Additionally, PKR has three appointed vice-presidents—Nurul Izzah Anwar, K Saraswathy, and Awang Husaini Sahari.
