PETALING JAYA – PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh has confirmed that the party’s central leadership council will hold a meeting on Wednesday, but dismissed claims that it is an emergency session. Speaking to FMT, Fuziah clarified that the meeting was convened following a formal request by several council members and was scheduled with the necessary seven-day notice, in line with party procedures.
“This isn’t an emergency meeting as alleged,” she said. “It’s not a routine monthly session either—it was called at the request of some council members and agreed to by the party president.” She declined to reveal the agenda for the meeting, which comes as the party faces internal criticism over its divisional election process.
Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that more than 20 council members had requested the meeting to address alleged irregularities in the ongoing party elections—a number exceeding the one-third requirement needed to initiate such a meeting under the PKR constitution.
Concerns over the integrity of the elections were raised last week by Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, who urged for a postponement of upcoming divisional polls. She cited questionable incidents in Selangor, including a reported failure to record votes for the Shah Alam division chief race.
Several other party leaders who lost in recent contests have also announced plans to challenge the results. Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung and Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said they would be submitting appeals, while PKR vice-president and Federal Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad confirmed he would also contest the outcome of the Setiawangsa division chief vote, which he failed to retain.
Nik Nazmi said he intends to raise issues through official party channels to ensure transparency. As tension builds, Wednesday’s meeting is expected to be closely watched for potential fallout within the party ranks.
