German Tourist Severely Injured by Large Fish Bite in Thailand

BANGKOK – A 57-year-old German tourist sustained a severe injury on Nov 29 after being bitten by a large fish while swimming off Khao Lak Beach in Thailand’s Phang Nga province. The tourist’s left leg suffered a deep bite wound approximately 15cm wide and 30cm long. Local lifeguards promptly rescued him after he signaled for help, and he was transported to a hospital in Phuket for treatment.

While initial reports speculated a shark might have been responsible, marine experts are conducting investigations to confirm the species of fish involved. In response, local authorities have raised red flags along the beach and advised swimmers to exercise caution. The Phang Nga Tourism Business Association is collaborating with officials to enhance safety measures and reassure visitors.

This rare incident highlights the importance of vigilance and safety awareness when swimming in coastal waters.
