China Willing to Be Partners, Friends with US, Says Top Chinese Envoy

Shanghai – In a bid to improve relations between the world’s two largest economies, China has expressed its willingness to foster a partnership and friendship with the United States. China’s Ambassador to Washington, Xie Feng, delivered this message during a speech in Hong Kong on Friday, addressing Chinese officials and the U.S. ambassador to China.

Xie emphasized that China has no intentions of surpassing or replacing the United States, stating, “The Sino-U.S. partnership is never a zero-sum game.” Instead, he pointed to significant opportunities for collaboration in critical areas such as trade, agriculture, energy, artificial intelligence, and public health.

“China and the United States have concerns for each side,” Xie said. “It is entirely possible to bring issues to the table to communicate frankly, seek solutions on an equal footing.”

The speech is part of ongoing efforts by Beijing to promote dialogue with Washington amid strained relations. The ambassador’s comments are seen as an attempt to bridge the growing divide between the two nations, particularly in areas of geopolitical tension and economic competition.

Xie’s remarks come at a time when both countries are navigating complex global challenges, with many observers calling for enhanced cooperation to address shared interests. The event in Hong Kong provided a platform for reaffirming the importance of constructive engagement, signaling that despite differences, China remains open to pursuing common ground with the U.S.
