ALGIERS — Algeria have extended the contract of national team coach Vladimir Petković and his technical staff to 2028, the Algerian Football Federation announced on Sunday, days before the squad departs for the World Cup in North America. Petković’s previous deal had been set to expire immediately after the tournament.
Appointed in February 2024, the Bosnian coach has overseen a marked upturn in results, compiling 21 wins, four draws and three defeats in 28 matches. Under his leadership Algeria secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup, their first appearance since 2014, and reached the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following consecutive group-stage exits in 2021 and 2023.
The federation said the contract renewal reflected “stability and confidence in the work accomplished.” Algeria begin Group J play against defending champions Argentina on June 17, followed by fixtures against Jordan and Austria.
