World’s largest Zinc Smelter Project to be set up in Gujarat

Vedanta Group firm Hindustan Zinc Limited has announced that it has signed a pact with Gujarat Government to set up a Greenfield Zinc smelter in the state. Zinc smelting is the process of converting zinc concentrates into pure zinc. It will be operational by 2022. The location for the project set up will be Dosvada, Tapi district, Gujarat. This plant is very strategically located. It will be spread over 415 acres. The facility will incorporate an investment of approximately Rs 10,000 crores. The government is expecting that the plant will generate 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. The location is in proximity to the existing ports and key markets of consumption. Hindustan Zinc Limited is one of the world’s largest and India’s only integrated producer of Zinc-Lead and Silver. It operates one of the world’s largest zinc mines with an annual production of over 840,000 tons. This is one of the largest MoUs signed by Gujarat under the State’s new industrial policy. The project will incorporate the latest technology, automation and highest standards of environment and health safety compliance.
