US House Speaker plans vote this week on standalone Israel aid Bill

Freshly installed US House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Sunday he anticipates floor activity this week to advance a funding Bill to support Israel extensively, even though President Joe Biden is pushing for a US$106 billion (S$145 billion) aid package for Israel and Ukraine combined.

“We’re about to move a standalone Israel funding Bill this week in the House,” Mr Johnson revealed in an interview on Fox News, adding that he knows the measure will draw bipartisan support and that Republicans will back a similar measure in the Senate.

Members of the US House of Representatives, which Republicans handle by a narrow majority, are planned to go back from a recess on Wednesday. “There are several factors going on across the globe that we have to seriously take into consideration, and we will surely make all the required attempts,” Mr Johnson said.
