The Temasek Foundation, Singapore launches fund to encourage and inspire self funded athletes


The Temasek Foundation will launch a fund in support of those athletes who are not supported by existing grants or can not fund themselves on January 13, 2021. First announced regarding this was made last year. The aim of this fund is to help and boost promising athletes who represent Singapore at various International competitions. Wider base of aspiring athletes will be benefited from this fund as there is no restriction as to the type of sport or age limit in this fund. 
S$100,000 will be contributed by The Temasek Foundation every year to the fund. This temasek inspire fund is jointly administered by National Youth Sport Institute and Sport Singapore. It will immensely help many self funded athletes like a BMX rider, Mr Mas Ridzwan Muhammad Ali. he said that it a great challenge for him to pay for overseas competition. He now hopes that with the help of this fund he will continue with BMX riding as his professional career and represent Singapore in international competitions and championships. Similarly, Mr Jason Wong, Asia Masters Athletics Championship gold medallist also said that he is looking forward to applying for this fund so that he is able to bear his expenses at the Taiwan Masters Track and Field Championships. 
In the first round of applications up to S$50,000 will be awarded which will be opening on January 13, 2021 and close on 12 February, 2021. The remaining S$50,000 will be given when the second round of applications will be announced later this year. Athletes who will apply will be evaluated on the basis of their level of performance, competitiveness and track record. Costs that can be considered are registration fees, accommodation, airfare, travel insurance as well as visa fees. It will encourage and inspire athletes to follow their dreams.
