Associate Professor Winston Chow was on Thursday evening was given the opportunity to be serving as a co-chair of the United Nations’ top climate science body – the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – leading to him being the first Singaporean to be in this role. The IPCC dives into the depths of scientific basis of climate transforming, its affect and future circumstances, as well as outlines possible options for nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enforcing affective adaptation techniques.
Its reports are worthy for the governments to create climate-related changes in policies and give their support to global climate action under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. As a growing nation co-chair, Prof Chow, a climate change scientist, will provide his contribution to Working Group II, which has its focus on climate change affect and adaptation techniques – as a prominent part of its seventh assessment report cycle. Prof Chow will also be in collaboration with British Professor Jim Skea, the freshly elected chair of the IPCC Bureau.
