KUALA LUMPUR — Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim affirmed their commitment to deeper bilateral cooperation and regional unity during Wong’s special visit to Kuala Lumpur on Friday, sharing a buka puasa iftar meal at the historic Carcosa Seri Negara estate.
In a Facebook post, Wong described their discussions as a “candid exchange on a wide range of issues,” extending Ramadan blessings to Anwar and all Malaysians while anticipating their next summit. The leaders, who last convened at the December 2025 annual leaders’ retreat in Singapore, pledged advances in healthcare collaboration and joint efforts against illicit drug trafficking.
At a subsequent press conference, they addressed persistent challenges including water supply agreements, airspace management, and maritime boundaries in the Johor Strait, emphasizing constructive dialogue rooted in mutual respect.
The visit underscores robust economic interdependence, with bilateral trade hitting RM402.35 billion (USD93.97 billion) in 2025, up 1.5% from the prior year, as neighbors and key ASEAN partners navigate longstanding issues like the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and Pedra Branca disputes.
This Ramadan-season diplomacy signals steady progress amid global uncertainties, building on 60 years of ties marked by regular high-level retreats.
