Strengthening Families Programme is a programme that helps families facing issues like unstable marriages or divorce. It is an evidence-based family skills training program for the general population and high risk families that is recognized both nationally and internationally.
It will be rolled out to more areas of Singapore over the next three years. It will better coordinate existing help such as counseling services in family service centers. 14,000 families are expected to benefit over the next two years.
Community partners have come together to coordinate support for families with complex interlocking issues. They have come up with common action plans to support them in achieving their goals. The well-being of a nation depends on loving and strong families. They have the work of creating the next generation emotionally healthy, responsible, educated citizens. They should be addiction-free and prepared to enhance the physical and social infrastructure of society. Research asserts that well-trained parents help youth avoid substance abuse and have better life outcomes.
A pilot mentoring programme for 100 at-risk youths will be launched by the ministry of Social and Family Development in the fourth quarter of 2021. It will be carried out over two years. It will involve students who prematurely leave the Institute of Technical Education.
Eric Chua, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Social and Family Development said that the ministry hopes that the programme can expand the youths network of positive relationships and empower them to achieve their goals and aspirations. The students who prematurely leave the education system may lack support and guidance; they are also at a higher risk of indulging in risky behaviour. The concern and efforts that the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore puts in for people is exemplary and applaudable.
