MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman voiced deep alarm over the spreading Iran conflict during a Monday phone call, warning of potential catastrophe for Arab nations already under fire.
The Kremlin statement highlighted both leaders’ fears that the violence, sparked by US-Israeli strikes killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, could spiral uncontrollably. Putin stressed the urgent need for political and diplomatic solutions to defuse the “extremely dangerous situation.”
In a parallel discussion, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov conferred with Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on the Iranian turmoil. The two ministers demanded an immediate end to hostilities and urgent steps to shield civilians and infrastructure in Iran and neighboring states from further assaults.
Russia and Saudi Arabia positioned themselves as advocates for de-escalation, prioritizing dialogue over military escalation amid reports of Iranian retaliation hitting Gulf territories.
